AI ACT – first step!

The first AI Act (EU Reg. 2024/1689) obligations, which include AI literacy and the ban on prohibited AI practices, will be effective from February 2, 2025!

AI Literacy
Providers and Deployers of AI systems shall start ensuring their staff a sufficient level of AI literacy by way of organizing training courses dedicated to their employees.
Similarly, courses may be provided to AI users to help them understand the risks associated with AI and its use.

Prohibited AI Practices
Inferring human emotions in the areas of workplace or education, using subliminal, deceptive or purposefully manipulative techniques, exploiting human vulnerabilities (e.g., age, disability) or using other practices listed in Article 5 AI Act will be prohibited.
It is therefore of the utmost importance for the companies to evaluate the AI applications in use and to ensure they do not fall under the above-mentioned prohibited practices.

There is still time before the sanctions kick in! Start being (or thinking about being) AI Act compliant now.
